Beach Monitoring/Watershed Planning Assistant

Requirements:
•Must be a returning post-secondary student.
•Preference will be given to students with an environmental focus and interest in water quality or have completed coursework in limnology, algal ecology, or other aquatic science related courses and GIS.
•Must have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
•Must be able to work independently under minimal supervision, have the ability to organize workloads in order to meet time-sensitive deadlines, and be able to adapt to new situations quickly.
•Must be reliable and self-motivated.
•Must be able to work as a team player as well as independently.
•Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Must possess strong computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office and ESRI ArcGIS.
•Experience with water quality and aquatic field sampling equipment an asset.
Conditions of Employment include the following:
•Must qualify and register for the STEP Services program (http://www.gov.mb.ca/educate/studentjobs/).
•The position entails both field and office-based work.
•Must be able to work long hours. Must be able to work occasional weekends as required.
•Must be comfortable working around water and must be able to swim.
•Must have a Valid Class 5 driver’s license in good standing (currently not under suspension).
•Must be comfortable driving long distances on the highway (up to 400 km per day), while alone in the vehicle, and to remote areas, including during challenging weather conditions.
•Must be physically capable of performing extensive field work and comfortable working outdoors, including during challenging weather conditions and with biting insects.
