Camp Counsellor

Overview

A STEM Camp Counsellor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of campers who attend STEM Camp. Each Camp Counsellor reports to the Camp Director and Education Coordinator. As a Camp Counsellor, you will be guiding campers through STEM-related activities centred around the topics of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. A strong academic foundation in these areas is a huge asset. A Camp Counsellor must be fun and energetic but also have good group management skills. Camp Counsellors are responsible for implementing activities, respecting health and safety protocols, assisting with activity clean up and exhibiting strong leadership and initiative skills. The successful applicant will demonstrate a dynamic and interesting personality and possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills. This position provides an opportunity to enhance leadership skills and build out the educational problem solving, creative and technology sections of your personal resume.

Qualifications

The responsibilities of a Camp Counsellor include but are not limited to:

Supervising and supporting campers aged 5 to 13
Assisting campers in learning about STEM while providing a fun and safe environment
Assisting the Camp Director and Education Coordinator to ensure a smooth pick-up and drop-off process at the start and end of each day
Implementing the STEM Camp curriculum by leading inquiry, discussion and activities with campers of all ages
Ensuring that all emergency procedures are taught and practiced by all campers and staff at your location
Carrying out any duties assigned by the Camp Director or Education Coordinator
Mentoring Counsellors-In-Training (CIT) at your location
Engaging parents by providing appropriate and professional feedback
Modelling appropriate behaviour and creating positive interactions in all daily routines and program delivery with campers and your peers
Adhering to the Activity Schedule and Training Manual
Adhering to all STEM Camp policies including “Policy for the Protection of Children”
Completing non-paid Health and Safety Training
Attending a training session at your site prior to the start of camp
