Drilling & Completions Summer Student - Term

Tundra is seeking a Drilling and Completions Summer Student for 4 months (beginning of May until end of August) based out of the Virden or Winnipeg office.

As the Drilling and Completions Summer Student, you will be responsible for providing data governance support, technical process support, and special project support for the Drilling and Completions departments as required. Time will be divided evenly between Drilling and Completions; however, adjustments will be made on project process and success.

Reporting to the Drilling Superintendent and Completions Superintendent, some specific duties and responsibilities of the Drilling and Completions Summer Student include, but are not limited to:

Duties to primarily revolve around project work with some technical process support as needed. Type and scope of projects to be adjusted to meet the needs of the Department and skills of the successful applicant.

Drilling Well Performance Data Tracking in Wellview
Purpose: To transition some or all of the departments well performance tracking data from excel into Wellview.
Scope: Review existing data tracking and refine based on current Department needs and requirements. Identify which data may be transitioned into Wellview and work with the Drilling group and Peloton as required to implement. Develop instruction document for Drilling Supervisors to identify data points to be recorded in Wellview as well as ensuring appropriate data governance. Work with Senior Drilling Engineer to develop and implement reporting structure for form reports as well as data link/export into performance summary sheet.

Drilling Technical Documentation Automation
Purpose: To develop automated/more efficient processes for aspects of the Drilling Department technical workflow.
Scope: Work with the Senior Drilling Engineer to assist in the development of automated stick diagram generation through Generwell, through integration of the geological prognosis, directional planning depths, and other relevant well specific program information into Generwell.

Drilling Procedure Organization and Tracking
Purpose: To organize Drilling procedures into appropriate categories as well as filter out obsolete and outdated procedures.
Scope: Create master list of procedures to track when procedures were last updated, cross reference procedures which contain similar information to ensure all procedures remain up to date when changes are made, create searchable keywords in the master list to facilitate locating proper procedures when required, develop and include revision tracking for each procedure document.

Drilling Performance Data Analysis
Purpose: To develop flat times and performance averages for SE Sask drilling program.
Scope: Coordinate with Drilling Advisor to assimilate historical SE Sask drilling performance data into Tundra’s performance data. Develop expected flat time and operational performance averages for SE Sask drilling program. Review variety of potential program adjustments with vendors to identify cost, performance, and risk implications.

Drilling Department Digital File Organization
Purpose: To review and update file structure in Drilling Department folder structure on T: drive.
Scope: With the assistance of Senior Drilling Engineer and Technical Assistant, review folder structure for organization, clean up of redundant or out dated information, and reorganize for ease of access to relevant information.

Offset Frac Hit Data Analysis
Purpose: Collect offset frac hit data from 2018 to present and analyze for trends to best determine offset frac hit avoidance guidelines.
Scope: Collect/data mine historic offset well casing pressure and fluid level (AWS) data; organize data by well type with estimated distance from wellbore centers. Analyze data trends to generate avoidance guidelines (i.e., casing pressure rate of change) for determining when to cut a frac stage and when to continue pumping the stage. 2021/2022 data is available in Peloton Frac and Reliance Oilfield Services MRL. 2018 to 2020 data will need to be data mined by searching Reliance Oilfield MRL, emails, and Reliance data reports.

Completions Early Bottom Hole Pump Failures
Purpose: Determine failure modes and corrective measures for pump failures within 6 months of completion.
Scope: Collect pump failure data from wells that required troubleshooting and/or service rig intervention within 6 months of completion date. Organize data by failure type and corrective actions. Generate recommendations to reduce future failures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• Must be enrolled in Post Secondary Education and returning to post-secondary education in September 2022.
• Previous oilfield experience is not a requirement.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to take direction and work independently.
• Driven by results, ability to identify creative solutions.
• Keen understanding of Microsoft Office suite of programs, with emphasis on Excel, Word and Project.
• Interest in data analysis and workflow process improvement.
• Manage time efficiently.
• Proof of Covid-19 vaccination.
• Adhere to the safety accountabilities as per Tundra’s Safety Policies.
