Field Breeding Summer Associate

Your tasks and responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly motivated Field Breeding Summer Associate to join our successful team for the Summer of 2022. This position is a 4-month term.

From your first day as a Field Breeding Summer Associate, you will be a contributing member of the team with meaningful responsibilities. Our goal is to provide interesting and challenging work while at the same time have fun and celebrate successes.

This position will provide an opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in agriculture to experience working with world class researchers, agronomists, plant breeders and cutting-edge technology. Field Breeding Summer Associates experience the full spectrum of implementing a multi-crop small plot field research program including field selection, site and seed preparation, planting, trial maintenance, data collection and harvest.

Key tasks:
Assist with trial preparation activities including seed counting, sorting, placement of sample envelopes into planting order and order verification.
Assist with the collection of agronomic data from canola, corn and/or soybean plots throughout the season.
Follow trial stewardship and/or regulatory guidelines and policies, as per internal or agency requirements.
Safely operate and maintain the research equipment (tractors, planter, sprayer, plot combine), company vehicles and trailers.

Qualifications

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of Bayer’s LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, we are seeking someone who possesses the following:
A current student pursuing an Associate’s (Diploma), Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree with a focus in agriculture or science.
High level of motivation with the ability to work independently.
Strong organization, time management and problem-solving skills.
A good understanding of agronomic practices.
Ability to work long hours as required and able to provide your own transportation to the research farms.
Basic mechanical skills and ability to operate farm machinery.
Farm experience is an asset but not required.
Valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and a willingness to obtain heavy trailer endorsements.
