GROUNDS MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT (2) Positions May 09 to September 02, 2022

Overview

The Manitoba Agricultural Museum is seeking a hardworking, team-focused individual in the position of Grounds Maintenance Assistant.
This is a summer student position. Criteria requirements are that the summer student must be between the ages of 16 and 30 at start of hire and returning to school in the fall of 2022.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Grounds Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the maintenance and beautification of the grounds and museum exhibits. In a small work team, the Grounds Maintenance Assistant will occasionally support other staff members with customer service, admission duties, and special event support during the museum’s Signature event, the Manitoba Threshermen’s Reunion & Stampede.

Duties
Grounds Maintenance
o Keeps the museum and campground grounds clean and tidy by mowing grass, cutting weeds, identifying, and reporting on paths that need levelling.
o Suggests and implements beautification of the site takes care of flower beds, ensures benches, garbage bins and other grounds furniture are in practical spots while respecting the aesthetics of the grounds.
o Contributes to the maintenance and monitoring of museum exhibits.
o Ensures that no litter is on the grounds; supports the recycling efforts of the Manitoba Agricultural Museum
o Opens and closes the museum and ensures spaces are ready for guests.
Customer service and administrative support
o Provides directions to visitors on the grounds and engages in a respectful and engaging manner.
o Assists the team with reception duties and administrative tasks during peak season.
o Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications
o Interpersonal skills and a willingness to work in a customer-focused work environment.
o Experience or interest in agriculture, history, museums, education, or tourism
Assets
o Experience using a lawn mower, weed trimmer and other tools is an asset.
o Class 5 Driver’s License is an asset. Note that the museum is not accessible with public transportation.
o We have a campground available, if necessary
o Ability to speak additional languages is also an asset, but not a requirement.

Conditions of Employment
o Hourly wage: $12.00
o Dates of employment: 16 weeks from May 09, 2022 to September 2, 2022 (to be confirmed)
o Part-time and full-time positions.
o Flexibility is required from all staff to ensure the museum can open 7 days a week. Full availability is required during the MTRS week, last week of July
o These positions are subject to funding, through Canada Summer Jobs and the Manitoba Metis Federation employment programs. Candidates must be between 15 and 30 years of age, with plans of returning to school in the fall. Other eligibility criteria will be checked before the interview process.
