Heavy Duty Mechanic
Overview
Industrial Metals is in need of a permanent full-time Heavy Duty Mechanic or Technician who will be required to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy trucks and heavy equipment in a scrap metal yard. You will be required to maintain all equipment to the required standards and be responsive to production needs and equipment failures.
The ideal candidate must be a team player with strong attention to detail. You should also be able to make decisions, troubleshoot, and perform repairs with little to no supervision. You will be working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and frequently on elevated spaces.
Qualifications
• Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training or an equivalent heavy equipment mechanic work of at least 2 years
• We are willing to support and train mechanically inclined candidates
• In-depth knowledge of industrial/construction equipment and machinery
• Working knowledge of safety standards of equipment
• Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings
• Demonstrated good oral and written English communication and reading abilities
• Manual dexterity is required to use power and hand tools
• Must be able to lift and carry up more than 50 lbs
• Strong attention to detail and demonstrated analytical ability
• Able to work professionally, respectfully with a positive attitude and a high level of personal integrity at all times
• Strong work ethic and ability to complete work in a timely manner
• Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
• Computer literate
