Overview

Job Description/Responsibilities: GCS Energy Services is hiring confident, reliable individuals for its industrial weed spraying program based out of Virden, Manitoba. Successful candidates will be adept at operating ATVs, UTVs, small equipment, pick-up trucks, backing and pulling trailers and using GPS systems. The work schedule will vary and may include working weekends and spending days away from home with accommodations. These are seasonal-full time positions anticipated to run from May to October but can be made flexible for students returning to school. The position may be extended and/or expanded depending on individuals and available work. Provided by GCS: All employees will need to successfully compete our GCS Online Orientation and will be adequately trained in the use, operation and maintenance of all equipment and tools prior to beginning fieldwork. Training in the types, use and proper handling of herbicides will also be provided. In addition to any site-specific orientations and training, GCS will provide a hard hat, high visibility vest, gloves, safety glasses and respirator upon hire. Successful candidates are responsible for providing their own CSA Approved Steel-Toed Boots and Coveralls. A clothing allowance is provided to assist with purchasing these items. Qualifications

Qualifications: Post-Secondary students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. The position is based out of Virden, MB, but candidates must be willing to travel in MB and SK and work extended hours and weekends when necessary. Preference is given to applicants with current safety certificates including Standard First Aid, H2S Alive, ATV & UTV training, and a current Manitoba and/or Saskatchewan Pesticide Applicator License. Successful candidates who obtain these required certifications within 3 months of being hired by GCS may submit their receipts along with a copy of the permanent certificate and be reimbursed for the cost on their 2nd pay-cheque. All applicants must have a minimum Class 5 driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract. Participation in Pesticide Application and other on-the-job training is required. Candidates will be subject to pre-access drug and alcohol screening. Other expectations include reasonable written, mathematical and mechanical skills. Also, willingness to work extended hours and be physically capable of performing some moderately demanding physical work will be required. Key Assets: A farming or environmental related background is considered a definite asset. Knowledge related to small engines, weed identification, understanding and finding sites based on legal land locations, and use of a GPS are also advantageous.
