THE ROLE: Under the supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor, the Swim Instructor/Lifeguard plans and prepares swimming lessons, instructs students at their appropriate level, and provides feedback to participants and/or parents with recommendations for improvements. All swimming lessons will be in accordance with guidelines set out by Red Cross and Lifesaving Society programs. They will also perform lifeguard duties and participate in meetings and in-service training, clinics and club events. Other duties include opening and closing the aquatic facility, ensuring the safety of all participants while in the pool facility and assisting in maintaining the pool office, pool deck and storage areas in a neat and tidy manner.
THE LOCATION: CFB Shilo is home to the First Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery and the Second Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. With a population of about 1,400 military personnel and their families, the Base is completely autonomous with accommodations for more than 600 families and quarters for close to 400 single personnel.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:
· High school diploma AND some experience
OR
· An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience will also be considered
AND
· Current National Lifeguard Service Certificate (NLS) – pool option qualification
· Current CPR Level C and Standard First Aid qualifications
· Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification
· Current Lifesaving Instructor certification
· List Experience:
• Dealing with the public
• Providing customer service
• Performing lifeguard duties
• Dealing with children
• The implementation of training and practice sessions
• The development and implementation of individual training plans
• Cash handling
· Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership (our shared competencies).
