About the Initiative:
The Rural Access to the Arts (RAA) initiative will provide a virtual space for dialogue, experimentation, and collaboration between established and emerging artists and arts groups based in southwestern Manitoba. The virtual space will support the piloting of innovative digital programming, such as digital artist projects and residencies, online presentations of work, online community engagement workshops, and virtual collaborations. The RAA initiative will augment a long-term strategy to support local artists and arts organizations by increasing public access to their digital projects and programming.

About the Role:
The Digital Initiatives Coordinator will provide support in the selection of the artists for online programming and will provide administrative and technical support to artists. The Coordinator will also develop a strategic recommendations report on how artists and arts organizations in the region can move forward in future collaborations.

Curatorial and Programming:
- Researches and recommends artists
- Works in collaboration with AGSM Executive Director and Arts Educator to determine participating artists

Project Coordination:
- Meets with artists and shares information about the RAA initiative
- Coordinates online workshops, talks and artist projects
- Schedules and corresponds with selected artists to arrange logistics
- Works with AGSM staff to promote artist projects

Metrics and Analysis:
- Tracks and compiles web metrics upon completion of digital programs
- This is a non-renewable term contract funded by the Canada Council Digital Strategy Fund.

Qualifications

- Fluent in digital technologies, web applications; and able to teach and communicate with energy and excitement to a wide audience
- A demonstrated passion for community-based education
- A commitment to working with First Nations and rural communities.
- Experience teaching new media with special consideration given to those with experience managing media arts programs
- Interest and familiarity with contemporary art and regional arts practices
- Open-minded and willing to adjust plans based on feedback from gallery and community
- Sensitive to cultural needs
- Strong organizational skills, able to self-motivate, prioritize goals, and lead the development of new programming in response to the needs of regional arts groups
- Excellent time management skills (planning travel, communication, documentation, organizing feedback, research, and implementation of programs to ensure their success and sustainability)
- Ability to work with artists and artisans of varied skill levels
- Must have a valid driver’s license
