Seasonal Resource Assistant

Overview

The East Interlake Watershed District (EIWD) is an organization of neighbouring municipalities, towns, and villages
working together as a watershed community with the Province of Manitoba to promote the sustainable use and
management of land and water resources within the East Interlake region of Manitoba. Since 2005, the EIWD has
implemented numerous conservation projects including wetland enhancement, prairie restoration, reforestation,
regenerative agriculture, and more.

We are seeking two energetic and motivated individuals for our seasonal Resource Assistant positions to
assist with a variety of the EIWD’s programs and projects. Positions start in May and finish near end of August 2022.

Duties:
• Meet and work with landowners and producers within the Watershed District to develop and implement
conservation and enhancement projects.
• Perform maintenance at prairie restoration sites.
• Assist with prairie, shelterbelt, reforestation, and/or riparian area plantings.
• Conduct water samples.
• Assist with educational events and promote the mandate of the Watershed District.
• Conduct site assessments for potential projects.
• Conduct waterway and water retention project surveys utilizing GPS surveying equipment
• Process water quality and/or culvert inventory data.
• Various office tasks and duties

Qualifications

Qualifications:
• Education or work experience in one or more of the following specialties: environmental science,
agriculture/farming, plant/wetland ecology, GIS, and/or other relevant fields.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office computer software.
• Experience working with the public is an asset.
• Knowledge of conservation practices, BMPs, and water quality is an asset.
• Experience with ArcGIS software, surveying, and/or GPS units is considered an asset.
• Enthusiasm for the outdoors and conservation.
• Must be able to work out of our office in Gimli.
• Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license in good standing.
• Ability to drive an ATV and/or a trailer is considered an asset.
• Must be willing to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as required to
complete duties.
• EIWD receives funding through Manitoba’s Urban/Hometown Green Team Program; applicants must
be youth aged 16 to 29 years.
