Summer Research Assistant

Overview

The Westman Agricultural Diversification Organization is an applied agricultural research group funded by the province of Manitoba that operates in Melita and southwest Manitoba. WADO requires the assistance of two Summer Research Assistants. Duties may include fieldwork with small tractor, biosecurity protocols, seeding, mowing, combining, field cleanup, sample cleaning & processing, field and sample data collection, equipment maintenance and repair, shop work, and small construction projects. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a student pursuing an agricultural or science related career, training provided. Position available from May 2nd until September 2nd.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have previous farm equipment experience, have agriculture related background and/or education, or any practical skill set found in farm situations. Applicants must have a full class 5 drivers license, and be able to work independently at times, work in outdoor environments, and pay attention to detail. Applicants must be physically able, punctual, self-motivated, skilled, willing to learn and have an interest in agriculture.
