Urban Green Team: Forest Steward
Overview
Location: Riparian forests along the Assiniboine River
Earliest Start Date: June 2022
Wage: $12.00/hour
An excellent opportunity for a first or second year university student enrolled in biological sciences, ecology, environmental science or studies. The position provides a hands-on opportunity to learn about native habitat, participate in ecological restoration and make a positive contribution to Winnipeg’s riparian forests.
Duties:
The successful candidate will work on reforestation, trail enhancement, monitoring, and invasive species management along the Assiniboine River’s riparian forest. Some of the project activities include:
• Planting trees and shrubs
• Invasive species removal and monitoring (European buckthorn, in particular)
• Assisting with vegetation sampling
• Maintenance of trails and promotion of sustainable recreation
Qualifications
Qualifications:
• Ability to work as part of a team
• A positive attitude with a desire to work outdoors and get your hands dirty
• Able to commit to the entire length of the position
• A student interested in an environmental career
• An interest in native plants and wildlife in the Winnipeg area
• This is an Urban Green Team position and candidates are required to be between 15 and 29 years of age.
