Introduction
Municipal and Northern Relations is seeking a qualified individual to fill a Technical and Public Works Consultant position located in Thompson/The Pas. Qualifications

Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Candidates who possess a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology must be willing and able to obtain their Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation within 12 months of the start date or combination of education and experience
Must be able and available to be on call for emergencies as required
Must be able to travel to remote communities by vehicle, boat, small aircraft, all-terrain vehicle and/or on winter roads
Must be able to work overtime including evening and/or weekends if and when required
Qualifications:
Essential:
Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, preferable in the Environmental or Municipal Discipline; a Bachelor of Science, or an Engineering degree. An acceptable equivalency may be considered
Knowledge of operations and maintenance of municipal infrastructure, water, wastewater systems, or solid waste management
Experience interpreting and applying legislation related to municipal infrastructure, water, wastewater, and solid waste management, including The Public Health Act and Environment Act and related regulations
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate information to a variety of clients and stakeholders
Experience with municipal infrastructure including planning, operations and maintenance (ex: roads, public buildings, equipment)
Strong written communication skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to resolve conflict, build relationships and interact effectively with internal and external clients
Experience educating and consulting internal and external stakeholders to develop competency and understanding
Ability to take initiative and perform tasks independently while working under minimal supervision

Desired:
Knowledge of Workplace Health & Safety and Risk Management policies and procedures
Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints or drawings
Duties:
The Technical and Public Works Consultant is responsible to consult with, assist and provide guidance to community councils and their staff in the development and maintenance of municipal infrastructure consistent with community development plans.
