The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Agriculture Specialist position within our Energy, Infrastructure, and Resource Management Department (EIRM) located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. The Agriculture Specialist will be primarily responsible for advising Red River Métis agricultural producers on the implementation of new on-farm beneficial management practices (BMPs). This position will be responsible for ensuring all project deliverables including BMPs implementation is achieved.

Qualifications

Job Duties/Competencies:
• Develop and oversee approved projects;
• Build relationships and communicate with MMF Citizens to expand Agriculture Programs;
• Coordinate work associated with the facilitation of meetings, community workshops, teleconferences, etc.;
• Prepare reports, briefings, and letters, for review by the Director;
• Facilitate Citizen involvement in project planning;
• Work collaboratively with industry, government, and non-government relationships;
• Provide any necessary documentation in relation to meetings, including follow up from corresponding departments;
• Research and review all relevant documents, policy, legislation, etc;
• Research and develop surveys and interview questions on climate concerns.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Hold or be eligible for membership in the Manitoba Institute of Agrologists with a Professional Agrologist designation, and the ability to obtain the designation if successful for this position;
• Hold a valid Certified Crop Advisor certification (if ineligible for a P.Ag. designation);
• Completion of post-secondary education related to Agriculture is an asset;
• Experience working in or knowledge of the field of Agriculture is a strong asset;
• Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills;
• Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
• Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
• Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
• Ability to frequently travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
