Overview
True North Sports + Entertainment is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader with a strong financial acumen to drive excellence within our Finance team.
The Assistant Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day financial operations and contributing to the strategic financial direction of True North Sports + Entertainment and the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club. This position requires a blend of strong technical financial skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to drive financial innovation. The Assistant Controller will manage various financial reporting and operational processes while also ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

Lead and collaborate within a dynamic finance team that values innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Oversee high-volume financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and purchasing for the Winnipeg Jets, Manitoba Moose, and hockey for all centre.
Manage cash operations of all businesses, ensuring seamless banking correspondence.
Provide financial insights by preparing and analyzing departmental reports to support strategic decision-making.
Optimize business systems to strengthen internal controls, enhance efficiency, and improve financial performance.
Contribute to budgeting, aligning financial planning with organizational goals.
Execute reconciliations and prepare journal entries as part of financial statement reporting.
Maintain compliance with tax legislation, including GST, HST, and PST.
Take initiative in refining financial processes to drive excellence across the organization.
Support ad-hoc reporting and other finance-related projects as needed.
Qualifications
***What we need from you:
Professional accounting designation.
Minimum 3 years of professional accounting experience with strong understanding of full cycle accounting and financial data analysis.
Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting.
Proven leadership experience with the ability to empower, mentor, and drive team performance to achieve excellence.
Innovative problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to accuracy, detail, and prudent financial management.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
A collaborative team player who takes initiative, meets deadlines, and thrives in both routine and high-demand periods.
Ability to exhibit discretion and confidentiality as required when dealing with confidential information.
Superior skills in the use of pc-based tools, accounting software and Microsoft Office suite.
Flexibility to work at both our downtown office location and the hockey teams’ practice facility.
