Rate of Pay: $36.62 - $43.23 per hour (2026 rates)
Closing Date: Open until filled
This competition will include testing and an interview, as well as a psychological assessment.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

A Firefighter/Paramedic will deliver, as a member of the emergency services team, fire fighting, emergency and non-emergency medical services, non-emergency services, and rescue in Brandon and the surrounding area.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responds to fire alarms to combat, control, and extinguish fires and to perform the necessary duties related to fire fighting such as ventilation, search and rescue, overhaul and salvage;
• Responds to emergency calls for medical assistance and performs emergency medical duties at the PCP level as per Manitoba Health Guidelines and Protocols and/or Department standards;
• Provides medical care and assessment within the Brandon Police Services Detention Unit.
• Receives incoming emergency and business calls and assists in the logging of information and dispatching of appropriate personnel and equipment as per General Operating Guidelines or as directed;
• Attends all In-House training sessions to maintain a level of competence and certification satisfactory to meet all Fire Department standards and participates in external training sessions as directed and required;
• Maintains records and prepares forms and reports required through the delivery of the emergency services;
• Cleans, operates, and maintains fire, rescue, and ambulance vehicles, equipment, personal protective gear, and all other related apparatus to Department standards;
• Performs housekeeping and routine maintenance tasks of emergency services facilities and grounds as required or assigned;
• Performs public fire education and fire prevention duties as directed;
• Performs all other duties as assigned or required.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Grade 12, G.E.D. , or Mature High School Diploma;
• Successfully completed the following courses or equivalent courses (mandatory):
o Firefighting Practices-Level 1 and 2 (NFPA 1001) - accredited version; Primary Care Paramedic (PCP); Rescue Practices; Fire Apparatus/Operator (NFPA 1002); Hazardous Materials Awareness (NFPA 472); Hazardous Materials Operations (NFPA 472), Fire Life Safety Educator (NFPA 1035);
• Holds a Certificate in Public Fire Paramedic Program or equivalency;
• Holds and maintain a valid Class 4 with Air Province of Manitoba Driver’s License;
• Hold and maintain a College of Paramedics of Manitoba Certificate of Practice.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Completion of the following courses (preferred):
o Emergency Vehicles Operations; Fire Service Hydraulics; Vehicle Extrication; Water and Ice Rescue; Elevated Rescue; Initial Response to Dangerous Goods; Pesticide Fire and Spill Control, Anhydrous Ammonia and Ammonium Nitrate Response; Fire Inspection Level 1 and 2

WORK CONDITIONS
The Firefighter/Paramedic and/or Paramedic works in a team environment.
• Work in a shared and consultative manner with other employees (daily);
• Self motivated and quality driven to perform independent projects and facilitate team goals (daily);
• Necessary to work in all types of weather conditions (daily);
• Works in areas of confined space, heights, unpleasant noise levels, hazardous environments, and adverse odours (daily);
• Shall be available to work varying shifts and overtime and call outs (occasionally);
• Responsible to the Captain or designate.
