Build Technician

Overview

Green Iglu is a registered charity that supports food-related projects in Canadian communities ready to take food security into their own hands. Our main offering is greenhouse infrastructure and training that is tailored through community consultation. In addition, we offer training and educational programming that complements the greenhouse infrastructure.

- The main focus of this role is to be on-site for Green Iglu project builds and help facilitate the external and internal build setup of the greenhouse(s), while teaching community members the basics of tool use, build plans and working in a safe manner.
- Greenhouse technicians will help alongside the build technician and assist with the internal setup of the greenhouse(s).
- Communicate with the project manager to go over a clear and concise work plan; for each day on build.
- Report daily back to the specific assigned project manager of the build; to troubleshoot
- Ability to work with people of varying backgrounds and skill sets, to clearly communicate goals and plans.
- Comfortable with travel to Canadian remote communities for up to 1-2 days travel time and remain on site for 2-3 weeks.

Qualifications

- No less than 2 years experience working in carpentry, capability of building greenhouses, planter boxes and other structures by following plans.
- Be able to clearly articulate and educate others on this skill, in a respectful manner.
- Experience with basic hand tools, impact drill, circular saw, etc. is required.
- Ensure all workers are following Canadian safety codes and procedures.
- Interest in working in remote communities.
- Experience working with diverse groups of people.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Be able to think on your feet and be able to work independently.
- Pass vulnerable sector check.
- Hold a class 5 drivers license.
- Due to the regulations in many of the communities, you must be double vaccinated against COVID 19, and willing to follow any community health and safety protocols.
