The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the National Government of the Red River Métis - also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are Canada’s Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill multiple summer term Camp Counsellor positions within our Youth Department. The MMF is developing youth overnight camps, and the camps are set to run between the beginning of July and the beginning of September (Monday to Friday), with the expectation that successful applicants will be able to commit to the full length of this term and that they will be on site for the entirety of the week. Between May and June, employees will be expected to work some hours in the evenings as required for training purposes. The camp is located in The Duck Mountains near Swan River, MB, however we are considering applicants province-wide.

Qualifications

Job Duties/Competencies:
• Supervise youth while at camp and on daily field trips, ensuring the safety and well-being of participants by following program guidelines and monitoring and implementing risk mitigation strategies;
• Lead and engage camp participants by facilitating scheduled activities with enthusiasm and energy;
• Establish a positive, respectful, and inclusive camp environment by acting as a good role model and creating a good rapport with campers and parents;
• Assist with program initiatives to create fun, educational and appropriate experiences that promote healthy living, skill development and Métis cultural learnings;
• Provide coaching and mentoring to camp participants while liaising and reporting to the Camp Coordinator;
• Work in collaboration with the team to set-up/take down daily activities, assist with basic cleaning, and support the successful operations of the camp;
Skills and Qualifications:
• Must be 18 years of age or older;
• Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification is required;
• Previous experience working or volunteering with children and youth in a similar environment (i.e., camp programs, rec programs, or child-care);
• A demonstrated passion and interest in a relevant area: sport, fitness, physical literacy, art, STEM, etc.;
• Must have an ability to swim and be comfortable in open water activities and in wilderness type environments;
• Can be active both physically/mentally as well as able to stay engaged for long periods of time;
• Must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check, Criminal Record Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check;
• Knowledge of Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
• Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
