Civil Planner

Overview

Civil Planner

Reporting to the Director, Engineering & Design, the Civil Planner is responsible for developing and managing project plans, as well as coordinating with other departments to ensure that all aspects of the project are on track. This will include leading and oversight of all new service development, network planning and engineering, and implementation and build-out of our fibre network.

Role & Responsibilities include:
Creation of cable design plans, site plans (civil), and other drawings for new construction and upgrade/rebuild projects as well as new area first-to-the-home (FTTH) and Multi-Domestic Units (MDU) design drawings and packages

Draft municipal consent civil drawings; illustrate proposed routing in relation to existing underground and aerial facilities. Create applicable cross-sections and details. Select cable/conduit route that will most likely pass permit approval; both aerial and underground scenarios, and weighing scenarios through make-ready and costing analysis exercises (includes some field evaluations)

Preparation of fibre cable design plans, floor plans, site plans, splicing details and other drawings for new residential/commercial construction projects

Field survey new and existing plant structures and routes for the purpose of field verification and estimation

Conduct site meetings with designer/surveyor; attend meetings with teams to discuss project scope and strategies as required

Develop project-specific construction notes, material requirements and identify associated labour tasks

Be aware and adhere to all applicable Health & Safety regulations, in accordance with legislation and related company policy.

Qualifications

Expertise & Requirements:

High School Graduation; technology, project or planning certifications may be beneficial

Experience in telecom or utility planning, construction, and administration

Applied knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcGIS and related software

Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly with Excel, Word and Outlook

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to clearly communicate with internal and external project teams

Detail-oriented with solid problem solving and analytical skills

Multi-tasking ability; adaptable to changing priorities and deadlines

Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and resolve problems independently; monitors own quality of work

Must possess valid class 5 driver’s license
