Communication Technician

Overview

Accountable for effectively delivering timely customer and network provisioning, restoration and preventive maintenance in a high quality cost effective and efficient manner, in order to meet the requirements of our customers and business operations.

Qualifications

KEY COMPETENCIES & SKILLS:

Candidate will be working on tickets for customer and network.
Demonstrative enthusiasm as a team player, with excellent customer service skills.
Strong time management skill, analytical and problem solving with complex technical issues and network topologies, to meet restoral deadlines on trouble tickets and/or projects.
Candidate will exercise initiative and motivation to learn quickly and effectively; flexible to constant changing network designs and service offerings.
Possess the ability to work cooperatively, closely with management, engineers, programmers or platform managers; as well as, with minimal supervision.
Perform site surveys, capability to maintain critical spare inventory - protocols (remove, re-enter, vendor repair)
Ability to locate cable and equipment in environment.
Knowledge of how to work with fiber optics is essential.
Experience working with DC power installations is a plus.
Candidate will also be performing customer provisioning. Primarily data provisioning, voice installations, and restoral(s). Some installation, test and turn up of plant and/or network equipment.
Candidate must have a valid driver’s license, as operation of a company vehicle is required.
Field experience is an asset. Should have or be willing to undertake training to possess certificates in Safe Driving and First Aid.
Must be familiar and follow proper safety procedures.
Strength in Microsoft suite is essential.
Advanced computer skills is a plus but training will be provided.

Infinera
Ciena Transport Equipment
Alcatel
Cisco
Juniper
Familiar with Wavelength, Switched Ethernet, ATM, DWDM, routers, customer location equipment (CPE).
QUALIFICATIONS:

As per established qualification guidelines

Preferred Degree in Telecom or Electrical Engineering or 5+ years of relevant technical experience in Telecom.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Ability to travel to customer sites (company vehicle provided).
Secret-level Government of Canada security clearance.

Security clearance can be obtained after hire but is a condition of employment to retain the position. GoC clearance requires min 5 yrs Canadian residency.
