Conservation Technicians

Overview

What You Will Do
Working with other staff to perform activities related to the establishment, management, and maintenance of habitat programs.

Day-to-day operation and maintenance of DUC’s projects which may include seeding, chemical and mechanical weed control, conducting controlled burns, and vegetation control.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
• General project and shop maintenance activities
• Wetland project operation and maintenance
• Assisting other DUC staff with ongoing conservation work as needed
• Assist with database maintenance and report writing as needed
• Habitat assessments, inspections and site evaluations
• In-field GPS mapping of habitat on projects
• Working with community groups on wetland conservation and stewardship initiatives
• Conduct invasive plant management, including invasive plant inventories, surveys, mechanical removal, and chemical treatment.

Depending on the location of the position, there may be times where you will be required to travel to various communities or remote areas. This position will also involve heavy lifting, physical work and outdoor work in all weather conditions. Our ideal candidate will be able to take direction and execute tasks in a safe and efficient manner without direct supervision.

Qualifications

Requirements
• Full-time post-secondary student pursuing a career in agriculture, engineering, biology, plant ecology, environmental science, sustainability or similar field.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word and Outlook
• Comfortable working as part of a team or independently
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed, which may include evenings and weekends at times.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• A passion for conservation, the environment and the outdoors.
