Construction / Drafting Technician

Overview

- This position has two distinct job functions, namely; an assistant to the Construction Inspector or assisting the Sr. Drafting Technician. The Construction / Drafting Technician will be required to perform a number of engineering tasks associated with water pipeline construction as well as be a competent AutoCAD user.
- This position will perform surveying activities and general construction supervision duties including but not limited to; verifying the work is in compliance with the plans and specifications, record material quantities and create daily construction activity reports.
- The Construction / Drafting Technician reports to the Construction Superintendent and receives direction from one of the Construction Inspectors when working on construction projects or will receive direction from the Sr. Drafting Technician when performing drawing duties.
- Work term is from early May 2025 through the end October 2025

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in the Civil Engineering Technology or Technician Program
- Competent AutoCAD user
- Competent with modern survey skills suitable for construction lay-out and as-built data collection
- Ability to use Microsoft Office software, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.

Desired Qualifications:
- Familiar with basic engineering and construction terminology and techniques

Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License and vehicle.
- Willing and able to travel throughout the province frequently and work extended hours.
- Willing to work outside the City of Brandon, in various areas throughout Manitoba and stay in hotel for long periods of time.
- Ability to work outdoors and be exposed to extended periods of hot and cold weather conditions.

The Board also provides assistance for collection, treatment and disposal of municipal wastewater.
