The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Director position within our Identity Protection and Inter-Indigenous Relations Department located in Winnipeg, MB. The Director of Identity Protection and Inter-Indigenous Relations will be responsible for upholding the distinct national identity, rights, and recognition of the Red River Métis, while fostering respectful, strategic relationships with other Indigenous Nations and governments

Qualifications

Job Duties/Competencies:
• Promote Red River Métis identity through programs, policy, and partnerships;
• Deliver presentations to raise awareness of Red River Métis history and identity;
• Collaborate with Indigenous partners and the MMF’s Ambassador nationally and internationally;
• Manage departmental operations, including finances, compliance, and reporting;
• Conduct research to inform culturally focused policies and programs;
• Participate in inter-jurisdictional negotiations and technical working groups to represent and advance Red River Métis interests in broader Indigenous forums;
• Coordinate meetings and prepare briefing notes on identity protection and inter-Indigenous initiatives;
• Support advocacy and intergovernmental relations to advance Métis identity recognition;
• Liaise with government officials to advocate for Red River Métis identity in policy and program discussions.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Indigenous Studies, Political Science, Law, or related field;
• 5 years’ experience in a leadership role with proven experience in Indigenous governance, cultural policy, legal advocacy, or community leadership;
• Demonstrated ability to prepare budgets and read financial statements;
• Demonstrated organizational, financial, and administrative management skills;
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
• Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
• Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
• Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
• Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
