Disposition Coordinator

Overview

Introduction
The Manitoba Human Rights Commission is an independent agency of the Government, responsible for administering The Human Rights Code. The Commission takes complaints of discrimination, investigates them and determines if there is sufficient evidence that The Code has been contravened to warrant a public adjudication of complaint. The Commission also offers mediation services as part of the complaint process and conducts human rights education and promotion programs across the province.

The Manitoba Human Rights Commission is hiring two Disposition Coordinators. The Disposition Coordinator plays a central role in the coordination and administration of the Complaints process, including in the service, triaging and disposition of complaints, and in supporting the Commission’s legal team in preparing for adjudication hearings. Disposition Coordinators works collaboratively with the Commission’s management and administrative teams, as well as with the Commission’s officers and legal counsel to ensure the complaints process runs effectively and efficiently.

Duties:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Disposition Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination of the complaints process set out under The Human Rights Code, including preparing complaints for registration and service, triaging complaints to identify opportunities for mediation or preliminary assessment, managing the receipt of replies, submission and evidentiary documents and dealing with the disclosure of documents, reports and letters, as required. In their role, the Disposition Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the Commission’s database, and managing the physical filing system associated with the Commission’s complaint process. The incumbent is required to prepare correspondence to parties, as well as provide updates to the public on the status of their complaints. The Disposition Coordinator also provides legal administrative support to the Commission’s Legal Counsel by filing materials with the adjudicator and Courts, preparing document disclosures and written correspondence, booking hearing venues and coordinating other meetings, as required. In their role, the incumbent also supports the overall administration of the Commission by assisting with reception and other office related duties, as required.

Qualifications

Essential:
Experience performing a full range of administrative duties, preferably in a legal environment, as well as providing excellent customer service
Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate work
Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a respectful workplace and value diversity, including the ability to deal effectively with related system stakeholders.
Excellent written communication skills
Excellent verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and show initiative under minimal supervision
File management experience including gathering and compiling information through conducting research and contacting stakeholders
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
The ability to adapt, learn and grow through challenge, pressure or adversity
Experience and proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word), Adobe or equivalent software
Experience interpreting legislation, policies and procedures
Strong analytical and decision-making skills

Desired:
Graduation from a recognized legal or administrative assistant training program or equivalent education and/or experience.
