District Technician

Overview

Job Description
The District Technician will be responsible for assisting the manager with management and delivery of Westlake Watershed District infrastructure and conservation programs. Duties will include, but are not limited to, pre-and post-construction surveys of drainage infrastructure, data processing, interaction with landowners, and program partners, on-site construction assistance and monitoring, assisting with conservation program applications and project verification. The Technician may also aid in supervision of summer staff.

Qualifications

Useful Skills
• Available to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30pm, but because of nature of position will be flexible with hours.
• Have a valid Manitoba Driver’s License
• Ability to work independently and in remote area’s
• Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
• Willing and able to complete jobs tasks that require manual labour
• Computer Skills a must
• Working knowledge of RTK and GIS surveying principles and techniques
• A working knowledge or ability to learn the following programs: Leica Infinity, Auto CAD or Micro Survey, Global Mapper or ArcGIS Pro, Pix4D Photogrammetry software.
• Ability to communicate, organize and work well with others
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills and decision making ability
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills to help trouble shoot possible technical issues and hand held equipment problems.
• Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with a variety of work activities
• May be required to obtain additional training
