Position Conditions: This is a full-time, permanent position of 40 hours per week. This position will be offered in accordance with conditions identified in the Collective Agreement between the City of Brandon and CUPE Local 69.

Rate of Pay: $26.66 - $31.58 per hour (2025 Rates).

Closing Date: 11:59pm on May 31, 2025.
This competition will include testing and an interview.

PURPOSE OF POSITION
To participate as part of a working team that operates a variety of equipment and machinery and performs the tasks required for the safe and efficient operations of the City’s Landfill and Material Recovery Facility (MRF).

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Operates a variety of equipment and its attachments, but not limited to, lift, level and move materials and transport other equipment. Such equipment may include an automated refuse truck, compost turner, various sized rubber tired loaders, front load depot truck, trash compactor, a shuttle hook truck with various sizes of all purpose containers, rock truck, large loader and all attachments, which include a trommel screener, excavator and track dozer;
• Assists in loading and unloading of equipment or drives equipment to the work site;
• Performs equipment servicing tasks such as cleaning, lubricating and refuelling equipment, makes minor adjustments or repairs or requests repairs as required;
• Performs work from site drawings and observes reference stakes, hand signals, oral and written directions;
• Installs and operates special attachments on equipment;
• Performs all duties using safe work practices and ensuring work conditions as required by the Workplace Safety and Health Act and City of Brandon safety regulations are met and maintained;
• Maintains records required in the operation of the Landfill and Scale including records for materials, equipment hours, mileage, etc.;
• May provide supervision to section Casual Labourers and other Equipment Operators;
• Performs all manual tasks required in the operations of the Landfill, MRF and Compost.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Grade 12, G.E.D.,C.A.E.C, or Mature High School Diploma;
• Must possess a valid and subsisting Class 3 with Air Endorsement Province of Manitoba driver’s licence;
• Must obtain a Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate within one (1) year of appointment;
• Must have the ability to operate equipment that falls in the Equipment Operator 3 classification at the landfill, such as compactor, tracked dozer, or excavator;
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the safe operation of Equipment Operator 3 classified equipment for the purpose of loading, shaping, and building with various material types;
• Must obtain Landfill Operating Basics (LOB) certification within one (1) year of appointment;
• Must have completed Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) course or obtain within 6 months of appointment;
• Must obtain Forklift Certification within sixty (60) days of appointment.
• Required to obtain certifications required by provincial regulations.

WORK CONDITIONS
The Equipment Operator Level 3 works independently and in a team environment.
• Work in a shared and consultative manner with other employees (daily)
• Self-motivated and quality driven to perform independent projects and facilitate team goals (daily)
• Necessary to work in all types of weather conditions (daily)
• Works in areas of confined space, heights, unpleasant noise levels, dusty environments, large insect areas, and adverse odours (daily);
• Must be available to work varying shifts, including some weekends, overtime and call outs (occasionally);
• Regular shift includes weekend and evening shift rotation;
• Responsible to the Solid Waste Chargehand or designate.
