Geotechnical Lab Technician

Overview

AECOM is seeking a Geotechnical Lab Technologist for a new full-time role based out of our Winnipeg, MB office.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Help conduct lab test such as plasticity index, hydrometer, proctor, moisture content, CBR, LA abrasion loss, Micro-Deval, hydraulic conductivity, direct shear test, triaxial, etc.

- Conduct field related work, including coordination with subcontractors, conduct site visits, conduct geotechnical field investigations and monitoring of construction activities (grading, field compaction testing, instrumentation installation and monitoring).

- Complete inspection such as subgrade inspections, proof roll, pile inspections, etc. Prepare inspection reports.

- Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.

- Communicate effectively with others within the team and with internal and external clients.

- Committed to do all of his work safely following AECOM safety procedures.

- Provide guidance and troubleshooting for quality control testing and performance of earthworks such as fill compaction and excavations.

- Travel to work will be expected within Alberta, Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, and other provinces/territories in Canada.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

- Technical Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution.

- 2+ years experience in soils laboratories, drilling test holes and directing a drilling crew, surveying experience and drafting experience (Basic).

- Valid and unrestricted driver's license.

Preferred Skills/experience:

- Experience in construction administration, or related experience within the civil, geological or geotechnical engineering field.

- Experience in surveying (GPS, Total Station, etc).

- Willing and interested in working overtime and weekends.

- Willing and interested in Working out of town (Northern Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan, First Nations)

- Willing and interested in working in camp settings, in northern Manitoba and northwest Ontario.

- Willing and interested in international work.

- Experience in team related job setting is an asset.

- Knowledge and experience with various geotechnical software, such as AutoCad, civil 3D, gINT,

- Construction oversight, QAQC, contract administration.

- Coordination of designs with drafting teams and/or personal proficiency with AutoCAD.

- Highly developed written communication, time management and organizational skills.

- Demonstrated interpersonal skills; conduct yourself with integrity, work within multi-disciplined teams, deal with complex issues, and maintain effective working relationships.

- Have a high level of initiative and enthusiasm for getting things done.

- Proficient with MS Office Suite; excellent knowledge of Excel and Word.
