Position Summary:
The Literacy Support Teacher (Early Years) works collaboratively with classroom teachers to enhance foundational literacy skills in early learners. The successful candidate will support the development and implementation of literacy-focused programming, provide targeted interventions, and support assessments to improve student outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborative Programming:
Support the development and adaptation of literacy programming in partnership with classroom teachers, ensuring alignment with curriculum outcomes and individual student needs.
Classroom Support:
Assist in the delivery of literacy instruction in early years classrooms through co-teaching, modeling strategies, and offering in-class support.
Targeted Instruction:
Provide individualized or small-group literacy interventions focused on phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, comprehension, and early writing.
Assessment:
Conduct and support the use of formative and summative literacy assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
Professional Collaboration:
Work closely with educators, school-based teams, and divisional literacy personnel to support literacy goals and share evidence-based strategies.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Education Degree and Valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for)
Current knowledge of effective literacy instruction and assessment practices
Experience providing, creating and implementing individualized programming for At Risk students and students with special needs
Knowledge and experience with the Confident Learners Program through The Learning Bar
Strong planning and communication skills
A strong background in formative assessment and data-driven instruction
Knowledge and implementation of cooperative learning/small group instruction
The ability to work alongside teachers, colleagues and contribute collaboratively as a team member
