Materials Testing Technician Coop Term

Overview

ENG-TECH Consulting Limited is seeking Engineering Technology students to join our team of professionals for the 2024 Work Term. Position Description
Successful applicant(s) will continue and expand on their education in materials sciences by participating in and conducting laboratory or field testing of soils, concrete or asphalt, gaining experience in both field and laboratory work in the discipline of materials testing. Students will be exposed to many aspects of building and infrastructure design and construction through extensive hands-on work experience. The work will include compliance testing (conduct testing in accordance with CSA, ASTM and other industry standards), generating lab and field reports and reporting test results to laboratory supervisors and onsite to project personnel. Applicants will be exposed to and participate in workplace safety programs. Field services will include local (Winnipeg area) travel to job site locations. Applicants should also expect to travel to rural areas of the province. This might include remote parts of the province for several days to weeks at a time.

Qualifications

Candidates must be professional, self-motivated, capable of working by themselves in a complex and hectic construction setting, and detail-oriented problem-solvers with strong mathematical, communication and technical writing skills.
Previous experience in the construction industry is an asset but not required.
Candidates MUST have a valid Class 5 driver’s license, proof of license and abstract will be required, no candidate without a license will be interviewed, this position requires independent travel in company vehicles.
Current or planned certification as an American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Testing Technician or Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) Category QF Concrete Certification for the laboratory and field is required.
Candidates should submit a current driver abstract, a recent transcript and three non-relative references.
