We are seeking qualified individuals to train for a career as a Gas Maintenance Person. Under the direction of a Gas Supervisor or delegate, you will participate in a four-year apprenticeship program that includes on-the-job training and 12 weeks of competency-based classroom training leading to Journeyperson status. Maintenance Persons assist in the installation, construction, repair and abandonment of gas pipelines and related facilities in the gas distribution system as well as responding to Natural Gas related emergencies.

Responsibilities:

As part of your training, you will be required to successfully complete the Apprenticeship Manitoba Utility Gas Fitter's Licence exam
Maintenance Persons need to continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge to keep pace with the ongoing development of recent technology in the Natural Gas industry
Repair and make alterations to the Natural Gas distribution system including above and below grade piping and equipment
Replace Natural Gas meters and regulators and repair or install service lines
Respond to Natural Gas related emergencies such as damaged gas lines or below grade gas odor calls.
Operate hand, power and hydraulic tools, instruments, squeezing equipment, power excavation equipment (e.g., backhoe, trenchers, etc.) and pipeline tapping & stopping equipment
Be prepared to work outside of headquarter zone periodically
Qualifications:

High school graduate
Possess a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's Licence and be eligible to upgrade to Class 3 with an air endorsement
Meet the challenges of physically demanding work in all types of weather
Capable of working at heights on ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, roof tops and mechanical lifts
Be prepared to work with higher pressure natural gas and mechanical systems while adhering to established safety procedures
Be prepared to work in confined spaces with hazardous products while conforming to established safety procedures
Be prepared to interact with customers as required
A certificate in a registered trade (e.g., Plumbing, Refrigeration) would be an asset

The selection process includes aptitude testing, a panel interview, and a one-day Manitoba Hydro sponsored Skills Assessment and Trades Orientation program. Candidates selected for an interview must provide a current driver's abstract at the time of their interview.

Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $18.11-$29.19 Hourly, $34,701.16-$55,928.60 Annually.
