Knowles Centre is a treatment facility serving children, adolescents, and families from Manitoba.

Job Description:

We are seeking an Outreach Worker who will focus on providing outreach services for high-risk children and youth who are in danger of becoming or have become victims of sexual exploitation. The Outreach Worker is responsible for a combination of direct street outreach, investigation and tracking of high-risk youth and offenders. They must maintain good working relationships with partnering agencies such as the Winnipeg Police, relevant agencies, social workers, family members and caregivers. This position requires a person with excellent awareness of the issues present for Sexually Exploited Children and Youth (SECY).

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Essential:
• Diploma/certificate in Child and Youth Care or other relevant discipline with a minimum of two years’ experience in front line work, including outreach services. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Experience working with high risk populations
Understanding of The Child and Family Services Act.
• Extensive knowledge of child sexual exploitation, addiction issues and other relevant health, justice and social issues, as well as knowledge of provisions in The Child and Family Services Act and Criminal Code of Canada in relation to exploitation, sexual assault and child abuse offences.
• Knowledge regarding the issues faced by Indigenous children/youth and of community agencies/programs that are considered specialized to work with exploited high-risk children/youth in the Winnipeg area.
• Ability to develop excellent working relationships with community-based agencies, law enforcement and child welfare agencies.
• Ability to produce high quality work and meet deadlines within a demanding, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal communication skills such as advocating for children with service providers.
• Excellent written communication and documentation skills to maintain reports and client files.
• Excellent assessment and observational skills.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and an ability to problem solve effectively.
• Physically able to walk or run following a child and to sit in a vehicle for extended periods of time.
• Able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Valid driver’s license
• Drivers’ Abstract (clean driving record)
• Successful applicants will be subject to provide Child Abuse Registry and Prior Contact Checks will be completed by Knowles Centre
• Criminal Record with Vulnerable sector
• First Aid/CPR

Desired:

• Awareness of the high-risk communities/areas or places that children/youth are being exploited and/or place at risk.
• Crisis intervention training
• Trauma informed intervention training
