Based in Brandon and reporting directly to the Team Lead, Planning & Design, the Planning & Design Technician - Summer Term is responsible for the gathering of WCG plant information via GPS surveying tools, auditing existing plant, downloading, and manipulating collected data, using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and other various software applications. This position will have the opportunity to use various planning tools and work within an experienced Planning & Design team to gain valuable industry experience.

What you’ll do:
• Incorporate industry standards and best practices into Planning & Design operations
• Utilize GPS surveying tools to collect pertinent information
• Download, store and manipulate collected data
• Cooperate with other departments to coordinate support and escalation
• Conduct field audits and attend team meetings
• Use of various industry programs, such as AutoCAD, GIS survey tools, ESRI Mapping software, Lode Data design software

Qualifications

What you’ll bring to the team:
• Minimum Grade 12, plus minimum 1 year of post-secondary education in Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Telecommunications Program, or equivalent
• Experience with GIS survey tools; Knowledge of GPS surveying equipment operation and/or AutoCAD is considered an asset
• General understanding of broadband, telecom, cable networks, and internet is considered an asset
• Strong communications skills (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills
• Detail-oriented with strong problem solving and analytical skills
• Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and resolve problems independently; monitors own quality of work
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be bondable
