Prairie Maintenance/Conservation Technicians
Overview
The Assiniboine Rotary Club and the Friends of the Living Prairie Museum are looking to hire up to five individuals (dependent on funding) under the Urban Green Team and Canada Summer Jobs programs to help maintain rare tall grass prairie habitat.
LOCATION: Living Prairie Museum, 2795 Ness Avenue, Winnipeg MB.
PROJECT/JOB DESCRIPTION: The Living Prairie Museum is a 12 ha tall grass prairie preserve with an interpretive centre. The preserve serves as a living museum and offers an opportunity to experience rare habitat in an urban area.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist with the removal of invasive plants to protect endangered habitat
• Participate in seed collection and plant propagation activities
• Engage in management activities that may include sheep grazing or pollinator habitat
• Maintain a hiking trail
• Assist with special event promotion and delivery, and interpretive programs when required
ANTICIPATED TERM: Weekdays, late-May to August 31st, 2023

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Applicants must be 15-29 years of age to qualify
• Enrollment in post-secondary education with specialization in Environmental Science, Biology or related field an asset
• Interest and general knowledge of Winnipeg’s natural areas
• Willingness to work outdoors (under adverse conditions, at times)
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Self-motivated and reliable
