Seasonal Fiber Optic Utility Locate Technician

*SEASONAL* Fiber Optic Utility Locate Technician
Start Date: June 3, 2024 until the end of Summer

RFNOW Inc. is a fast-growing, forward-thinking telecommunications company based in Virden, MB and we are set to rapidly expand our footprint throughout Southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan. We are looking for motivated individuals interested in joining our Utility Locate Team.

This position uses mechanical and technical equipment to accurately locate underground utility infrastructure such as, telephone lines, electrical power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

~Communicate and interact daily with managers, crews, utility personnel, and homeowners to discuss locating issues.
~Use company provided locate equipment and technology to accurately locate underground utilities.
~Attend and pass instructor lead training to obtain locator certification.
~Read and interpret job order tickets, maps, and blueprints.
~Determine efficient route to each locate in rural and urban areas.
~Remove and replace manhole lids.
~Collect data using various GPS survey equipment, including RTK Systems.
~Use lap top computer to receive, document and email.
~Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

~Successfully complete company provided locator training.
~Requires the availability for call out, including some mandatory overtime.
~May require weekend and holiday work on occasion when necessary.
~Some travel may be required, including overnight stays and out-of-town assignments and/or training.
~Ability to walk all types of terrain (grass, ditches, wooded areas, gravel, etc.) in and around construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas in all types of weather conditions (rain snow, cold, heat, etc.)
~Must be able to operate a computer to document and close tickets.
~Must be able to work alone and independently.
~Comfortable driving remote, local roads with unpredictable features.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
~Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds to properly locate utility infrastructure.
~Standing for extended periods of time (>60 minutes) and considerable walking; 1-2 miles at least 2 to 3 times a week.
~Working outdoors including exposure to temperature extremes and variety of terrains.
~Ability to work in and walk all types of terrain.
