Boissevain Select Seeds/Froese Farms JV is a small, family run pedigreed seed farm and seed cleaning/retail business. We farm small grains and oilseeds, and process them for sale to farmers in spring. This is an opportunity to learn about pedigreed seed production, customer relations, and current farming practices.
The job will be multi faceted and change throughout the summer. Spring (May-early June) will be spent on the retail yard site loading customers with bulk seed, communicating with contract seed production growers, and assisting the yard manager with various duties, including cleaning, yard maintenance, and some field work depending on experience. Long hours (10-12hr/day, 6 days/week weather depending) during this portion
Early summer (mid June-July) tasks will depend on experience. It may include operating farm equipment in the field, helping with seed cleaner maintenance and upgrades, communicating with seed growers and inspecting production fields, assisting with hosting plot/crop tours, assisting with irrigation equipment, yard maintenance, and various other farm/seed production related tasks. During this time hours will be ~8hr/day, 5 days/week, some Saturdays.
Late summer (August) tasks will be weather dependent. Operating equipment during harvest, assisting with irrigation equipment, assisting with hosting plot/crop tours, communicating with contract growers and inspecting production fields, yard maintenance and bin cleaning.
Qualifications
-currently enrolled in Agribusiness or other Ag diploma
-Valid class 5 licence required
-Agricultural work experience strongly preferred
