The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Senior Finance Officer position within our Finance Department located at 150 Henry Avenue in Winnipeg, MB. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Finance Officer will be responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting activities for a portfolio within the Finance Department

Qualifications

Job Duties/Competencies:
• Review journal entries, bank statements, disbursements, expenditures, and other accounting/financial records;
• Ensure financial recording accuracy and compliance with established accounting standards procedures;
• Review monthly submissions, note any discrepancies, and follow through on rectification;
• Conduct financial and activity monitoring;
• Organize and coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring that all requirements are met;
• Lead the design and setup of financial systems;
• Prepare detailed reports on audit findings and make recommendations to improve management practices;
• Manage Officers and Clerks within portfolio with assistance of the Controller;
• Assist in the coordination of meetings, travel and maintain calendar;
• Advise the Controller on financial policy issues consistent with current legislation and MMF policies;
• Assist the Controller with planning in all aspects of department goals and activities.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field;
• Holding a CPA Designation is considered an asset;
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working in financial administration, general accounting, and accounts receivable;
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in leading and managing a team of 5 or more direct reports;
• Experience working computerized financial management such as QuickBooks or similar accounting program;
• Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records;
• Extensive experience in drafting correspondence and preparing reports;
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
• Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
• Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
• Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
