We are seeking a Station Operator (Thermal) to join our Western Generation Department. Under the direction of the Chief Engineer or delegate, you will perform all necessary operating functions associated with manual and supervisory control of the Brandon Generating Station.

Responsibilities:
Will perform all necessary operations of plant generating and auxiliary equipment under normal and emergency conditions including, operation of high-pressure boilers, gas turbines, water treatment plant, cooling tower, synchronous condenser and other equipment associated with a thermal generating station.
Participate and lead in the development of the team and the achievement of the team's goals.
Provide direction and training to Trainees, and other staff.
Interpret schematics and prints to facilitate troubleshooting procedures.
Prepare detailed switching and operating procedures and work permits, and designate isolation of faulted equipment from associated systems. Perform or direct all operations to isolate and restore equipment for maintenance.
Compile plant operation records, maintain accurate statistics, and submit reports.
Comply with Corporate, Legislative and Regulatory requirements.
Will be required to perform maintenance and cleaning of plant equipment.
Perform Operator rounds ensuring equipment functions as designed.
Work a rotating shift schedule and be subject to 24-hour emergency call out.
May be required to perform standby duties outside of normal working hours.
Ensure daily activities are consistent with the objectives and targets of Environmental and Safety Management Systems.

Qualifications
Possess a Manitoba Third Class Power Engineer's Certificate of Qualification.
Must successfully complete required lessons, projects and examinations from the Operator Training Program and demonstrate competency in operating ability.
Thoroughly conversant with Safe Working Procedures, Job Planning, the Manitoba Hydro Worker Protection Code, and the Generation and Wholesale Permit System.
Capable of communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
Possess a sound knowledge of the theory and operation of transformers, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, water treatment systems, gas turbines and synchronous condensers. Be capable of adapting to new equipment and procedures.
Capable of working harmoniously with fellow employees.
Physically capable of performing all the duties of the position. Including but not limited to working from heights, in confined spaces, wearing a respirator and under adverse weather conditions.
Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.

Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $31.69-$45.37 Hourly, $60.733.66-$86,942.96 Annually.
