Overview
Prairie Roots Co-op is hiring a Summer Agronomy Student at our location in Marquette, Manitoba, on a seasonal full-time fixed 5-month term basis.
The successful applicant will receive training and experience in all aspects of Prairie Roots Co-op's Agro Business. The position will be based in Marquette to start the term, but may transition to working out of our Starbuck or Elm Creek locations as needed as the summer progresses. They will provide support to the Agro Team through the completion of various duties in the areas of Crop Inputs Business (fertilizer, bagged seed, and bulk custom seed treating, crop protection) or a combination thereof as determined by business needs and individual capabilities.
What you’ll do:
• Assist Agro Team as needed to support the Crop Inputs Business:
• Assist the Agronomist in crop scouting and field diagnostics
• Maintain chemical sheds in a clean and organized fashion
• Assist the facility in organizing and tracking inventory in chemical sheds
• Assist in loading outbound shipments for farmers
• Deliver product to farmers
• Assist in unloading inbound trucks and shipments of product
• Assist with data entry and paperwork as required
• Assist with field signs and other marketing efforts
• Work co-operatively with facility employees to ensure the smooth operation of the facility
• Foster a culture of respect and a positive, progressive environment for all employees and customers
Qualifications
Who you are:
• Ability to work independently, as well as contribute to the team
• Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
• Strong communication skills
• Mechanical aptitude
• Farm background not required but is considered an asset
• Have the ability to work overtime and on the weekends.
Education:
• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree or Diploma program. Preference will be given to those in an agriculture-related field.
