Summer Research Assistant

Overview

About Us: Gaia Consulting Ltd, established in 1987, conducts potato and other vegetable research trials for crop input manufacturers, commodity associations, growers and government.

About the job: This is a summer term position starting on Apr. 28, 2025 and ending Aug. 29, 2025. We are currently looking for individuals capable of carrying out activities related to small plot agricultural research. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in many areas of research including research methodology, equipment operation, weed, disease and insect identification. The successful candidate will work with agronomists to:
Establish and maintain research trials including field preparation, seed preparation, planting and pest scouting/control.
Apply test substances according to prototcol.
Conduct assessments and collect data.

Qualifications

Looking for individuals who have the following skills/abilities:
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as contributing to a team environment.
Strong problem solving, analytical and interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated and with an attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Enjoy working outside.
Valid Canadian driver's license.
Experience in research or with agricultural equipment are assets but not necessities, farm background is also an asset.
