Summer Student

Manitoba Crop Diversification Centre (MCDC)

Overview

Manitoba Diversification Centres are non-profit, applied research organizations directed by local producers and industry. The province’s four centres conduct applied research and demonstrations on crops, technology, and best management practices. Their work enhances primary production and promotes sustainable agronomic solutions that benefit local communities and contribute to the growth of agri-food and agri-product processing.

Manitoba Crop Diversification Centre (MCDC) focuses on water and irrigation management, applied potato research, environmental sustainability, and crop diversification. MCDC invites applications for a Summer Student position to assist in agricultural applied research operations from April 28 to August 29, 2025 (flexible). This is a full-time, seasonal position with the possibility of full or part-time extension into fall to assist with harvest and post-harvest operations. This is an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates to broaden their knowledge of crop production in multiple crops (including cereals, oilseeds, pulses, forages, cover crops, potatoes, etc.) and gain insight into field research methodologies.

Duties
The Summer Student provides field operations and technical support to applied crop production and agricultural land management research at Diversification Centres. Responsibilities include assisting with small plot crop seeding, plot maintenance, soil and plant sampling, data collection and entry, and harvest activities.

Qualifications

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• A valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for commuting are required.
• Ability to work extended hours during peak periods (growing and harvest seasons).
• Physically capable of working outdoors in various environmental conditions.
• While preference is given to college/university students and recent graduates, individuals with a keen interest in agricultural research operations are encouraged to apply.
