Technical Assistant

Overview

What You Will Do
Working with other staff to perform activities related to the establishment, management, and maintenance of habitat programs.

Day-to-day review, monitoring, and reporting of NPS’ projects in and around the city of Winnipeg, site inspections, supervise soil placement, quantifying work areas, drafting work, site reports and assisting our wetland and upland teams with tasks as required.

Depending on the location of the position, there may be times where you will be required to travel to various communities or remote areas. This position will also involve heavy lifting, physical work and outdoor work in all weather conditions. Our ideal candidate will be able to take direction and execute tasks in a safe and efficient manner without direct supervision.

Qualifications

Requirements
• Relevant work experience in one or more of the following specialties:
o earthworks, soil erosion management, surveying, heavy civil construction, equipment operation, agriculture/farming, greenspace management, or landscaping.
• Relevant work experience in one or more of the following specialties would an asset:
o municipal works or community development, construction coordination, construction inspections or work within an engineering office
• Education from Red River College’s Civil Engineering Technology program will be an asset.
• Experience with MS Office, AutoCAD, surveying
• Strong work ethic, enthusiasm for the outdoors and environmental conservation.
• Practical field skills, effective written and oral communication skills and organizational/planning skills.
• Able to work independently or within a dynamic team environment.
• Valid drivers license.
• Able to work flexible fulltime hours on short notice (including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime).
