Vegetation Management Technician

Overview

Vegetation Management Technicians (VMT) (aka. Weed Sprayer, Herbicide Applicator)

This is a seasonal position from early May to the end of August with the possibility of extension into the fall.

We anticipate the job (your training) to start in early May in Nisku, AB.

This position involves:
• Working away from home, in the field across western Canada, for extended periods
• Herbicide application and weed management
• Weed identification and record keeping
• Inventory and equipment management
• Equipment operation and maintenance
• Quality customer contact and public relations

Expected compensation for full season participation is as follows (this estimate is based on previous seasons; staff are paid hourly). Wages are $20--25 per hour depending on experience.

First year VMT $14,000-$18,000 plus meal allowance paid over the course of the season
Second year VMT $16,000-$22,000 plus meal allowance paid over the course of the season
Third year VMT $19,000-$24,000 plus meal allowance paid over the course of the season

Accommodations and meal allowances are provided while working away from home base.

Qualifications

Conditions of employment:
• Be 18 years of age or older
• Be able to pass a Drug (Cannabis) and Alcohol test
• Have valid class 5 driver’s license for at least 2 years
• Provide a driver’s abstract suitable to our insurance
• Standard First Aid Level C certification with AED
• H2S Alive
• CSO/CSTS 2020

These certifications are an added bonus:
• UTV Safety Training
• Herbicide Applicator License (BC, AB, SK, MB)
• Wildlife/Bear Awareness
• Class 1 or 3 driver’s license
• Confined space

• Are in good health, bondable and energetic
• Are willing to work with others outdoors for long hours with overtime
