Overview

The Argyle-Lorne Weed Control District Board seeks applications for the position of
Weed Supervisor.

The person in this position must have excellent time management The Argyle-Lorne Weed Control District Board seeks applications for the position of and organizational skills and is required to have a high level of initiative. This position is full time, February thru November, with a reduced work week in the winter.
Responsibilities & Duties include but not limited to:
· Enforce Manitoba’s Noxious Weeds Act
· Maintain weed control on public property within the municipalities
· Daily (seasonal) operation of herbicide application equipment.
· Possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s License
· The Weed Control Supervisor must be eligible for and capable of obtaining the following:
• Provincial applicators license (Core and Rural Municipal)
• Permits pertaining to the use of pesticides and herbicides under the Manitoba Pesticide and Fertilizers Control Act (license), the Manitoba Environment Act (pesticide use permit) and Canada Pest Control Products

Qualifications

· Possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s License
· Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
· Strong communication skills and ability to work with others in a public works environment.
· The Weed Control Supervisor must be eligible for and capable of obtaining the following:
• Provincial applicators license (Core and Rural Municipal)
• Permits pertaining to the use of pesticides and herbicides under the Manitoba Pesticide and Fertilizers Control Act (license), the Manitoba Environment Act (pesticide use permit) and Canada Pest Control Products Act (product label uses).
• Other Safety and orientation training, including Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health, and WHMIS
• Computer skills/training (including Microsoft Office)
• Continuing education provided by the Manitoba Weed Supervisors Association.

Additional Assets
· A background in or familiarity with Agriculture and/or public works.
· Post-secondary education in Agriculture
· Familiarity with noxious weeds, including identification, biology and control.
· Mechanically proficient
