ACC accepting nominations for annual alumni awards

ACC is now accepting nominations for their annual alumni awards, which will be presented at the college’s upcoming Alumni Advancement Dinner.

“These awards are an excellent opportunity for us to recognize the great accomplishments of the college’s alumni,” said Caelie Walker, President of ACC’s Alumni Association.

Individuals in the community can nominate an ACC alumnus for one of three awards.

  1. Community Service Award: awarded to an alumnus of the college who has positively impacted the quality of people’s lives through service to others.
  1. Distinguished Alumni Award: awarded to an alumnus of the college who has distinguished themselves in both their chosen profession and their community.
  1. One to Watch Award: awarded to an alumnus of the college, 30 years or younger, who has demonstrated exceptional achievement and significant contribution to their profession or community.

There is also the Excellence in Teaching Award, which will be presented to a current faculty member who has made an extraordinary contribution to teaching and the student experience.

“It’s hard to only have one recipient for each category when there are so many ACC alumni throughout our communities and contributing to so many different industries,” said Lisa Huston, Alumni Relations Coordinator at ACC. “Our Advancement Dinner provides a venue for us to come together and celebrate all their successes.”

The deadline for nominations is Friday, November 27, 2015. For nomination forms and more information, visit www.assiniboine.net/alumniawards or email alumni@assiniboine.net.

Awards will be presented at the annual Alumni Advancement Dinner in early 2016. Tickets for the dinner will go on sale in January 2016.

Last year’s recipients included Jeff Vassart, President for Cargill Limited who won the Distinguished Alumni Award and Dave Botterill who received the Community Service Award for his global humanitarian efforts throughout Haiti, Peru and Mexico.

The One to Watch Award was presented to Leonard Sumner who was named Best New Artist at the Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Awards in 2014. Jerrylynn Manuel, an instructor in the Practical Nursing program at the college’s Winnipeg campus, was given the Excellence in Teaching Award.
