ACC to welcome Indigenous youth to campus for conference

This Saturday, ACC will welcome 200 Indigenous youth from across Westman for a daylong conference.

Participants will learn, network and push the limits of their true potentials at the “Kasikikidenidung” – Aboriginal Youth Conference taking place at our Victoria Avenue East Campus.

The conference is a joint effort with the Brandon Urban Aboriginal Peoples’ Council, Interprovincial Association on Native Employment – Westman Chapter, Manitoba Metis Federation Southwest Region, Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council, Dakota Ojibway Police Services, City of Brandon’s Community Development Department and the Brandon Friendship Centre.

As part of the conference, there will also be highlights throughout the day with Keynote Speakers such as Michael Redhead Champagne, Don Burnstick, and Jamil Mahmood. The youth will be travelling as groups throughout the day with breakout sessions in learning about Education and Training, Employment, Youth Business and Entrepreneurship and Culture.

Teachings and stories will also be taught through presentations of culture through Terrance Littletent and his troupe with a Black Light Hoop Dance performance at noon and afternoon workshop and with Marlowe Cochrane a professional magician.

A tradeshow will also be a part of the day in presenting information and resources for the youth in attendance to learn from. The conference will run from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
