Assiniboine career fair connects students with over 70 potential employers
March 20, 2025
Assiniboine College hosted a Career Fair on March 20 from 2-5 p.m. at the Victoria Ave. East campus, providing students the opportunity to connect with employers from a range of industries looking to hire staff. This inaugural event is a key engagement opportunity for students looking to launch or advance their careers.
Industry and student connection initiatives along with work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities are key to providing immersive educational experiences that blend academic studies with real-world workplace opportunities. At Assiniboine, WIL thrives through strong partnerships between the college, employers, and students, and ensures meaningful career-focused learning.
“Work integrated learning is one of the most impactful learning opportunities available to students, bridging the gap between classroom learning and industry practice,” said Lisa Huston, Industry Liaison and Work Integrated Learning Coordinator for the Peters School of Business at Assiniboine College. “Through these strong partnerships with employers throughout the province, Assiniboine provides students with connections and experiences that build career-ready skills and sets them up for long-term success.”
The types of WIL experiences vary by program, but many include co-op work terms, practicum placements, applied research, apprenticeship and/or work experience opportunities that are industry-driven. Events like the career fair play an essential role in furthering students’ access to industry professionals looking for new talent, while also allowing them to present their skills as competitive, industry-ready professionals.
“This career fair is an incredible opportunity for students to explore career options, meet potential employers, and gain insights into various industries,” says Erinn Heinrichs, Coordinator, Co-op Education & Work Integrated Learning Coordinator for the Russ Edwards School of Agriculture & Environment. “We are committed to bridging the gap between education and employment, ensuring our graduates have meaningful connections that can lead to rewarding careers.”
This year’s Career Fair featured more than 70 employers, including both local businesses and national corporations. Among them was RBC, a longtime supporter of workforce development and student success.
“At RBC, we believe in powering ideas for people and planet. Assiniboine College’s Career Fair provides a platform where the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers are provided an opportunity to connect with organizations committed to cultivating these ideas through a career path,” shares Nathan Campbell, RBC Manager Investment and Retirement Planning. “As an Assiniboine College alumnus myself and having built a career spanning 16 years with a leading financial institution, I have benefitted from what can happen when academia, industry, and future talent come together to connect, be curious, and find that first job, next job, or future career.”
To help students make the most of the Career Fair, Assiniboine hosted workshops and networking sessions leading up to the day- with attendees being encouraged to bring resumes, prepare for professional conversations, and explore the many career paths available at the event.
