Assiniboine Community College is offering an 18-week Dietary Aide program beginning in July, in partnership with Prairie Mountain Health. Students who complete this program will receive a Document of Achievement and be well-prepared to work as a Dietary Aide.

"Dietary Aides work closely with Cooks and Registered Dietitians and play a vital role as part of the health care team by assisting with all aspects of food service assembly, production, distribution and warewashing," stated Lisa Fugleberg, PMH Manager of Nutrition Services.

“Education about the role will provide Nutrition Services staff with a much better understanding of their work, especially about the different diets and food textures that promote the healing and health of our patients and residents.”

Prairie Mountain Health has played a crucial partnership role, providing feedback on course content that would best meet their needs and reviewing all learning materials.

“This program will help train interested learners for a current workforce need,” said Angela Pearen, Program Coordinator with Assiniboine. “In Prairie Mountain Health alone, there are dozens of positions available for part-time, full-time and casual Dietary Aides—more than 30 last I checked.”

The program will be delivered online at a self-directed pace. Students will complete four modules throughout the 18 weeks, which include presentations, videos and tests.

The first intake of the Dietary Aide program begins July 1, 2021. Further intakes will be available monthly. Interested students must apply to the program on the 20th of the month prior to the month they wish to start.
