Assiniboine student wins bronze in logo competition at Manitoba New Venture Championships

Second-year Business Administration student Cale Lewis took home a bronze award in the Logo Pitch Competition at this year’s Manitoba New Venture Championships held earlier in the month.

Lewis designed a logo for Cale's Ironworks, a business he operates as a hobby in addition to his full-time studies. The third-place spot came with an award and $150 cash prize.

The annual event is hosted by the Stu Clark Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. In addition to the logo competition, there is an Idea Pitch, Business Plan Competition and additional awards for the best-written business plan and people’s choice.

Twenty-five teams participated this year from Assiniboine, Brandon University, Université de Saint-Boniface and the University of Manitoba. Judges included local business professionals from across the private and public sector.

This past year, Assiniboine students won silver in the Idea Pitch competition. Two years ago, Agribusiness students from Assiniboine took first place in the Business Plan competition.

While Lewis enjoys exploring the creative world of ironworking and jewellery making as a side gig, his plans after graduation are to continue with his studies at Brandon University with the ultimate goal of becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant.

“I only have one trophy so it’s going to be one I have on display,” said Lewis.
