Cougar women’s soccer has added Kelowna, BC product, Jaspreet Virk to the 2022 roster.

Virk is a first generation Canadian having been born in Vancouver shortly after her parents immigrated from India in the late 80’s. She grew up playing soccer and most recently played in the Kelowna Women’s Soccer League. She’s also coached for the Rutland Youth Soccer Association for the past three years.

“Growing up, every kid around me played soccer or basketball. My dad played soccer growing up in India, so he threw all us kids in it and it really stuck for my little sister and I,” said Virk. “I’ve had a soccer ball at my feet since I could walk.”

Virk graduated from Rutland Senior Secondary in Kelowna where she was an honour roll student. She has since graduated from Okanagan College with a Bachelor in Business Administration in Finance. She is currently completing courses to become a Chartered Professional Accountant through the Western School of Business. Virk will continue her education in Assiniboine’s Accounting Advanced Diploma program.

“Jaspreet has played in various positions from wing to full-back and has recently been developing as a striker. She’s versatile and that’s valuable,” said co-coach Kate Broadhead. “She is quick to recognize advancement opportunities and has great spatial awareness while ball handling and supporting her teammates.”

“I’m a play maker,” said Virk. “I can play both sides of the field and have a good understanding on linking up with the full back, making overlapping runs and dribbling.”
