Theo Manias is packing his bags to travel roughly 6,575 kilometers to attend Assiniboine Community College and compete for the Cougars men’s soccer program in the fall.

Manias hails from Plouharnel, France. He recently graduated from Lycée Benjamin Franklin in Auray, France. He started playing soccer at the age of four and fell in love with the sport. It is the highlight of his summers and feeds his competitive edge. The 5’8” forward currently plays for the Auray Football Club, a regional division 1 team in France. He absorbs as much as he can from his coach, a former professional having played all over the world including in Major League Soccer. Manias has given back to soccer as a coach himself. He coached the U11 Carnac Football Club (FC) team, the first club he played for. As a player, he captained the Carnac FC for several years before playing with Auray FC.

“Theo is a striker with exceptional finish. He is physically strong and will create problems for opposing defenders,” said Cougars coach Chris McLachlan. “He has played at a high level in France and will be a great addition to our team.”

This won’t be Manias’ first time to North America. In 2019, he participated in a high school exchange program where he attended and played soccer for the Clinton High School Redwolves in Michigan, USA. He was selected as a first team all-conference after scoring 13 goals and notching 13 assists in 13 games with the Redwolves.

“I have good ball control, an ability to score goals and a strong game sense and team spirit,” said Manias. “I am really thankful for the confidence coach McLachlan has placed in me, I can not wait to start the season.”

Manias is enrolled in an English for Academic Purposes program for the fall with the intent to start Business Administration in January 2023.
